The Normandie Hotel

On our final day in Trinidad, we stayed at the Normandie Hotel located in a different part of Port-of-Spain called St. Ann’s. Our hotel is up in the hills of Port-of-Spain; surrounded by mostly residences and other hotels. It’s a nice quiet neighborhood.  And 5 minutes walk to the Queen’s Savannah Park and the Botanical Garden.  St. Ann’s is also residence to both the Prime Minister and the President of Trinidad & Tobago.

The Normandie Hotel was currently being renovated. The renovation didn’t really affect our stay other than the lack of water pressure in the shower.  The Normandie Hotel has a pretty swimming pool which was just outside our room.  Other than that, the standard room where we stayed was on the ground floor and was clean but did not have adequate lighting (at least in my opinion).  Only two towels in our room.  The Normandie Hotel offers complimentary wi-fi for guests.  The rooms offer basic cable television. The room rate includes breakfast.  I did not have breakfast with them.  There was a buffet and although there was nothing wrong with the food offerings, it wasn’t worth consuming.

The Normandie features a cafe and restaurant; we did not eat at either of them.  The Hotel also offers retail shops right next door for last minute shopping. There is a book shop, a shop that sold modern home furnishings, a couple of jewelry shops, and ceramic shop. There were also a few commercial offices too.  I think the shops open at 10am.

The staff were courteous and helpful.

Check out is at 11am.  They are able to hold your luggage in a private room adjacent to the front desk.

The location although a bit out of the way from main attractions, I highly recommend renting a car or pay to be driven around.
