TH and I just returned from a wonderful weekend in Portland, Maine. We have a great affection for the maritime city and did not hesitate to consider other destinations for our New Years getaway. It was a brief visit that included some favorite haunts, like dining at Fore Street and indulging on handmade chocolates at Dean’s Sweets; and new experiences where we relaxed and detoxed with 90 minute couples massages at Nine Stone Spa.
The best highlight of our visit was the snow! Although I had followed the forecast, I was not expecting the city and greater Portland to have as much snow as it did. There was at least 12 inches of snow already on the ground. I love snow. I fell in love with Portland, Maine when it snowed. I was happy knowing that I’d be romping around this maritime city in the snow.
We said goodbye to 2012 and hello to 2013 in our hotel, under the covers with the television on as we drifted in and out of consciousness. That was the result of having ate and drank too much a couple of hours earlier! But it was nice – welcoming in the new year quietly and cozy in bed. We didn’t even bother with the half bottle of champagne that was included with the hotel room. We happily fell asleep shortly after the clock struck midnight.
